A little guide for those who feel a bit lost in this journey.
Walkthrough:
- 01 – Donate 5 fish or bugs to Tom Nook for study
- 02 – Pay off Tom Nook.
- 5,000 Nook Miles.
- 03 – Increase your inventory space.
- Buy the Tool Ring by purchase the Pocket Organization Guide and Tool Ring for 800 Nook Miles
- 04 – Harvest resources.
- Hit all the rocks and collected the resources, you’ll want to harvest Wood.
- 05 – Donate 15 fish/bugs to Blathers.
- He’ll give you a recipe for the Flimsy Shovel and the Vaulting Pole
- 06 – Collect resources again!
- Hitting all of the rocks and trees on your island. You can make the timing of the rock mining a little easier by digging two holes in a diagonal formation.
- 07 – Bring resources for the Store.
- Collecting at least 30 Softwood, 30 Hardwood, 30 Wood and 30 Iron Nuggets.
- 08 – Use the Nook Ticket.
- You visit a randomly generated island filled with more resources to collect.
- 09 – Buy improved recipes for your tools.
- The machine in Tom Nook’s store sells something called Pretty Good Tool Recipes for 3,000 Nook Miles.
- 10 – Build a Bridge.
- Tom Nook, will give you a recipe for a Wooden Bridge.
- 11 – Select three housing plots.
- Tom Nook will give you three housing plots. Tom Nook will give you three housing plots.
- 12 – Build furniture for your plots.
- Each of the three plots requires six pieces of furniture, three inside and three outside. All of the furniture requested for the plots is DIY furniture, meaning you can craft it using common materials. When you place the second plot, you’ll unlock the recipe for the Ladder.
- 13 – Meet your new neighbor.
- 14 – Learn how to customize furniture.
- 15 – You should have another new villager in town.
- You can buy a ticket to a Nook Island, and maybe you’ll luck out with some fruit you don’t already have. Or you can spend the day fishing and collecting bugs to build up your stash of Bells. It’s really up to you!
- 16 – Resident Services upgrade.
- It’s going to take a couple days. The third and final housing plot should be filled today, so make sure you head over there and introduce yourself.
- 17 – Resident Services building.
- Once is opening, you’ll unlock the ability to build bridges and ramps throughout your island for a hefty Bell charge.
- 18 – Upgrade your inventory.
- Head to the ABD machine in the building and purchase the Ultimate Pocket Stuffing recipe for 8,000 Nook Miles.
- 19 – Build a Campsite.
- Requires 15 Softwood, 15 Hardwood, and 15 Wood, as well as 15 Iron Nuggets.
- 20 – Talk to Mabel in the town square.
- Mabel is standing in your town square selling clothes. If she’s not there, don’t stress, just keep checking back in the town square every day, and feel free to buy any clothes that strike your fancy.
- 21 – Start building bridges and inclines.
- You can leave this option for later if you prefer.
- 22 – Talk to the camper at the Campsite
- 23 – Place more housing plots.
- Talk to Tom Nook and he’ll sell you new housing plots for 10,000 Bells each. You can have a maximum of 10 housing plots on your island.
- 24 – Increase Isabelle’s town rating.
- 2-star rating:
- Invite more villagers
- 3-star rating improve your island:
- Plant more trees,
- Plant more flowers and make them bloom,
- Decorate your town with more furniture items,
- Build more fences in your town,
- Build more inclines and bridges,
- Build more facilities (like the museum or the tailor’s shop)
- 2-star rating:
- 25 – Build the Clothing Store.
- 26 – Talk to Sable in the Clothing Store every day.
- Slowly but surely she’ll start to open up to you. Eventually (after a couple weeks), you two will become close friends, and she’ll start giving you patterns every day, which you can use to customize certain furniture.
- 27- K.K. Slider arrives.
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons stops giving you direct objectives and starts letting you craft your own experience. Terraforming will now be unlocked, so feel free to craft your island however you like it, adding paths, digging rivers, you name it.

- Stone Axe – If you don’t want to chop the tree down and just want the wood material, use this tool for that purpose.
8 things to do every day
- Check in at the Nook Stop to earn Nook Miles
- Find the money rock
- Check your shops
- Dig up fossils
- Look for messages in bottles
- Talk to visitors
- Complete your first five Nook Miles+ goals
- Farm out your resources from rocks and trees
Making money (Bells) fast
- Hit the Money Rock: There is only one “Money Rock” each day, but hitting it 8 times in a row will net you around 20,000 Bells.
- Sell Non-Native Fruit: Sell for 500 Bells each. You may find non-native fruit trees on the various Nook Islands you visit when spending a Nook Ticket.
- Sell ‘Today’s Hot Item’ at Nook’s Cranny: Most of the Hot Items are not worth selling but keep an eye out for are the fruit-themed TVs and electronics.
- Catch and Sell High-Value Bugs and Fish: Example Paper Kite Butterflies, Emperor Butterflies, and Peacock Butterflies. Each of these will sell for between 1,000 and 4,000 Bells and are well worth chasing. Other valuable bugs include the Tiger Beetle and the Tarantula.
- Catch and Sell Sea Creatures: Depending on the inventory space you have and the creatures you catch, you can earn 25,000 bells for each hunt.
- Growing Bell Trees: Every day, there will be a glowing spot somewhere on your island. If you dig at that spot, you’ll net an easy 1,000 Bells. But after digging out the Bells, you’ll notice that there’s now a glowing hole. Plant 10,000 Bells and wait a few days and you will see the tree with three bags of bells where each one is 10,000 bells.

- Moving to the island: 5,000 Nook Mile
- Tent-to-house upgrade: 98,000 Bells, 80 storage slots
- House size upgrade: 198,000 Bells, 120 storage slots
- Back room addition: 348,000 Bells, 240 storage slots
- Left room addition: 548,000 Bells, 360 storage slots
- Right room addition: 758,000 Bells, 400 storage slots
- Second floor addition: 1,248,000 Bells, 800 storage slots
- Basement addition: 2,498,000 Bells, 1600 storage slots
- Free exterior renovations: Once you pay off your final home loan, you’ll be able to make changes to your house’s exterior once a day for free.
